Masteron has quite an impressive reputation among bodybuilders and athletes, with one caveat: Masteron and hair loss.

Does Masteron really cause hair loss or is that nothing more than an overblown myth?

Masteron, also known as a drostanolone propionate, is a moderately strong anabolic androgenic steroid derived from dihydrotestosterone, a testosterone metabolite.

As such, it does offer anabolic or tissue building properties, though with lower androgenic potential than that of testosterone.

For this reason, Masteron is a popular steroid in regard to its ability to enhance the development of lean muscle tissue as well as bulk.

However, it doesn’t tend to cause as much water retention as other steroids, so for those not looking for drastic increases in size, weight, or appearance in regard to growth of muscle bulk, it’s quite effective.

The main thing that causes second thoughts for many bodybuilders is the link between Masteron and hair loss. What’s the truth?

Masteron and Hair Loss

Masteron and hair loss can go hand in hand.

Why? Because dihydrotestosterone does have an influence on hair follicles.

The metabolite of testosterone – more commonly known as DHT – can actually prevent hair growth.

It does this by clogging hair follicles.

Dihydrotestosterone is a potent androgenic steroid that’s important for numerous health-based activities in males.

These include but are not limited to the development of male genitalia and enhancement of male sex characteristics such as muscle growth, strength, hair on the body, deeper voice, and so forth.

However, DHT is a metabolite of testosterone, triggered by enzyme activity. It’s reputed to be up to five times stronger than testosterone and causes shrinkage of hair follicles on the head.

How does it happen? Body hair requires dihydrotestosterone or DHT for growth, although scalp hair does not.

Scientists aren’t quite sure what happens to trigger the male pattern baldness, but it is believed that for some reasons, dihydrotestosterone binds to androgen receptors found in the hair follicles and triggers them to shrink.

What to Do About Masteron and Hair Loss?

Bodybuilders often turn to five-alpha reductase (5? reductase) inhibitors because the substance has been identified as the enzyme that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone.

Without it, this conversion would not take place.

However, even bodybuilders who take five-alpha (5?) reductase inhibitors in the hopes that Masteron and hair loss won’t go hand in hand are often disappointed.

The five-alpha (5?) reductase enzyme is not metabolized by drostanolone despite popular belief and perpetuation of that belief among bodybuilders.

Every individual using Masteron has the potential to experience not only different benefits, but side effects, including the hair loss.

Hair loss is not only limited to individuals with a predisposition or hereditary history of hair loss in the family.

In addition to the Masteron and hair loss connection, a number of side effects are also associated with Masteron usage.

Several of the side effects associated with drostanolone propionate (Masteron) are not particularly dosage-dependent.

Commonly, an experienced bodybuilder injects a range of 100 mg to 400 mg on a weekly basis. Some resort to decreasing dosage to 50 mg a day in order to prevent side effects, with different results.

So “low dose Masteron” hair loss may still occur as it’s one of the worst steroids for hair loss.

It’s hard to compare it to Tren or Primobolan however.

Will my hair grow back after steroids? Generally speaking, the answer is no.

About Masteron

Masteron is known by a number of names and trade names, including some nicknames given to it by underground lab developers.

It’s been around for many years, and bodybuilders may find it listed as:

Drostanolone propionate

Blackburn Compound

Permastril

Prometholone

Drostanolone propionate (Masteron) is not manufactured by government condoned and regulated pharmaceutical companies any longer.

Since the 1980s it’s fallen by the wayside due to its negative side effects, coupled with the development of newer anabolic androgenic steroids used in medical treatments.

Masteron is still manufactured by underground labs, many of whom create their own versions of the drug. A bodybuilder looking for it may find it in 50 mg to 100 mg injectable steroid preparations.

Side Effects of Masteron

Masteron, like other anabolic androgenic steroids, can trigger a number of negative side effects including those that affect heart function. Among them include:

Disruption of normal cholesterol lipid levels contributing to development of atherosclerosis. This imbalance also negatively impacts hormonal balances and some metabolic functions as well.

High blood pressure

Increased risk of blood clots contributing to a heart attack or stroke caused by the above-mentioned atherosclerosis.

Other side effects include decreased endogenous production of testosterone, triggering testicular atrophy. This can influence fertility.

Women should use with caution, as Masteron has the potential to virilize, triggering the development of male type characteristics including:

Enlarged clitoris

A deeper voice

Growth of hair on the face

Disruption or complete cessation of menstruation

Masteron may be beneficial for many bodybuilders, some who don’t particularly mind the connection between Masteron and hair loss. However, before indulging, be aware that once hair loss has occurred, it may not ever grow back.
