Despite the many attempts of different sport governing bodies to ban the use of steroids, there are still a huge number of athletes who use them.

They are not caught nor punished because they know how to get around steroid testing through steroid detection times.

Steroids like the ever-popular Dianabol have a detection time of 6 weeks so it is easy to avoid testing positive by timing your dosage appropriately.

Why not, when using them gives an athlete many benefits including increased strength, resistance and muscle mass and speedier recovery time after workouts?

However, like all good things, they have a bad side to them, which is why the United States have founded the Steroid Control Acts of 1990 and 2004, acts that classify anabolic them as Schedule III controlled substances.

Understanding Steroid Detection Times

Are you a competitive athlete who wishes to take anabolic androgenic steroids to enhance your performance?

You must have a deep understanding of steroid testing and steroid detection times.

The first thing you need to do is to get rid of the following misconceptions surrounding testing:

It is similar to general drug testing. Unlike routine drug testing, it requires the use of complex and advanced equipment.

This is because anabolic steroids are hormones that are naturally found in the body; therefore detecting their presence in the body is more difficult than detecting recreational drugs such as metamphetamine, marijuana or cocaine which are foreign compounds.

It goes without saying that It is more expensive than recreational drug testing, which is why it is not done as often as routine drug testing.

It is easy to perform. Most people – athletes included – think that it is as easy as peeing into a cup or having blood drawn and putting the sample in a high-tech machine that will automatically detect all the performance enhancing drugs in the specimen.

But this is not so; testing involves human input at every step.

What this means is that although there are sophisticated pieces of equipment used for detection, the procedure still requires human interpretation, which makes the entire testing prone to errors.

It is a complicated process, which is why there are only a few laboratories that conduct this kind of examination.

It involves detection of specific drugs. This is arguably the biggest misconception people have about it, because the procedure tests for all known kinds of PEDs and their compounds.

This means the sample must be tested for every possible drug, after which the testing is narrowed down to the specific drug the person is being tested for – which brings us to the importance of knowing and understanding steroid detection times.

Standard Steroid Testing

The most common method of testing is through the standard test, which measures the testosterone levels of an individual against his epitestosterone levels.

The baseline ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone levels is 6:1, but there are some organizations that test for a 4:1 ratio.

To yield negative results, whatever drug you have taken must be cleared off your system to make sure that the testosterone:epitestosterone will not exceed the limit. Again, you need to know the detection times of the drugs you are taking.

Either this, or you administer epistestosterone to retain the necessary testosterone:epitestosterone levels.

The Half-life of Steroids

All drugs have a half-life.

If you take 1000mg of Deca Durabolin (which has a half-life of 6 days) once a week for ten weeks, you will know when you will be “off” the steroid through the half-life.

This means that 6 days from the last dose of Deca Durabolin, you will still have 500mg of it in your system.

After another 6 days (which is 12 days from the last dose), you will have 250mg of the steroid in your system. The amount will keep halving every 15 days until it is totally gone.

What this means is that even if you already have finished you cycle, you will still have some amounts in your body.

Therefore, you must know the half-life of drug you are taking so you can plan your cycles, especially if you will be undergoing a steroid detection test.

Half-life must not be confused with active life, a common mistake many people make.

Active Life. This is the period when the body still has enough amount of the drug to produce the desired changes or to inhibit normal bodily functions. The active life of Deca Durabolin is 14-16 days. This means that it will still be giving you significant gains in lean mass 14-16 days after you have taken the last dose.

Half-life. This refers to the time it will take for the drug to be reduced to exactly one-half of its amount. As mentioned earlier, the half-life of Deca Durabolin is 15 days, so it will remain active in your system and can still be detected 18 months from your last dose.
